Presentation
“Sud relates a journey in time around the Mediterranean, a series of stops in cities, ports and elswehere along coastlines. The pictures were taken over the course of several years. The earliest ones date back to the mid-1980s, the most recent ones are from the year 2017. Morocco, Greece, Israel, Spain, Sicily, Corsica, etc. I laid them out as though I were dealing a deck of cards, without worrying about chronological order. What I wanted was for them to wind up melting into a single territory: the South. All of these places lead to an uncertain, dream-like cartography where a street in Jaffa might look like one in Palermo and a cove in Crete reverberates with a beach in an inlet in Mareseille. My aim is neither to bear witness nor to document, but simply to drift across the South, guided by an inner compass whose purpose is to re-enchant life through traveling, in search of an unreachable elswhere.”

"From his travel through Morocco, Greece, Spain, Sicily… this master of colour has brought back subtle and striking pictures” Causeur
"The wind of History blows on Ben Louou’s photographs. Thanks to his fineness, this messenger of the passing time reminds us of the fragility of lives, and of that stregth lying in the repeatedly disruped South.” Réponses photo
