Elizabeth II

A shy, frail beauty, thrifty and with only a basic education, propelled onto the Throne in 1952 without the slightest preparation - how could Elizabeth have gained such global prestige ? How could this petite woman, an aristocrat by birth but pure petite-bourgeoisie in her tastes, have managed through half a century of tumultuous reign to dominate one of the most anachronistic institutions in the world ? This book is based around several meetings between the author, the Queen and officials from Buckingham Palace. It is split into eight thematic chapters : Elizabeth II and the media ; the Queen and money ; the Queen and her Court ; the icon ; diplomacy ; the Queen and her family ; the Queen and her Prime Ministers... Not to
mention a chapter devoted to Diana and Camilla. The author makes more than one revelation, giving copious information about the personalities, the mechanisms of the monarchy and the historical and political context. It is a love story, a fairytale, a thriller set in the most secret and most powerful high-society in the world.
